Record number of workers, employment; Data center delay; Decline in home sales; Airport accident

*Georgia’s labor force and employment rose in February to all-time highs of 5.45 million and 5.25 million, respectively. the state Department of Labor (GDOL) reported Thursday. The February unemployment rate, meanwhile, was 3.6%, which is 0.8 percentage point lower than the national unemployment rate and 0.2 percentage point higher than Georgia’s rate one year ago.

*Columbus is going to wait a bit longer to decide on the future of a planned data center. WTVM reports the city council decided to listen to voters this week before making a final decision to approve a Technology Overlay District. Approval would make way for Project Ruby, which is a proposed five-billion-dollar investment first announced in February. Citizens have voiced concerns over the data center’s environmental impacts.  

*Sales volume for homes in metro Atlanta has declined, with nearly 4,900 homes under contract last month, a drop of over 20 percent from March last year.  

*No injuries are being reported from an accident that was a bit too close for comfort at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. A metal pole used to measure a nine-foot clearance swung through the window of a bus on the lower level at the South Terminal Thursday. The driver told police that he didn’t see the height requirement ahead of the accident.
