County seeks public input on UDC revisions, Comprehensive Plan update

Following the temporary suspension of certain high-density residential zonings. Hall County is preparing to release the first draft of revisions to its Unified Development Code (UDC).

“The Board of Commissioners implemented the temporary suspension in August 2025 to allow time to reevaluate the Unified Development Code, particularly residential zoning districts and standards,” Interim County Administrator John Gentry said. “Our staff has worked diligently on these updates, and now it’s time for the public to review and provide their input.”

In addition to the revisions to the UDC, the county will be updating the Hall County Comprehensive Plan in the coming months, which guides the county’s long-range vision for growth and development in its unincorporated areas. A public hearing will be held at the Board of Commissioners Voting Meeting on May 14 at 6:00 at the government center to introduce the process.

In addition, in-person public outreach meetings are scheduled in early June.

The public outreach meetings include:

·     South Hall Public Outreach Meeting: Tuesday, June 2, from 6-8 p.m. at Mulberry Creek Community Center (4491 JM Turk Road, Flowery Branch)

·     Hall County Government Center Public Outreach Meeting: Thursday, June 4, from 6-8 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Commission Meeting Room (2875 Browns Bridge Road, Gainesville)

·     North Hall Public Outreach Meeting: Tuesday, June 9, from 6-8 p.m. at North Hall Community Center (4175 Nopone Road, Gainesville)

“Both the UDC, which provides the framework for development, and the Comprehensive Plan, which provides the vision for future development, should represent the needs and goals of our diverse community,” Gentry said. “It’s important we get as much community feedback as possible throughout both of these processes in order for us to best guide the future growth of Hall County.”

More information, including the direct link for public input, will be released in the coming weeks.
