County cyberattacked; Infant mental health initiative; Toddler injured; July 4 fireworks show canceled

*Murray County’s government network has been targeted by a cyberattack, leading to the closure of several county offices until systems are restored. Essential services like first responders, public safety operations, and 911 services are still operational. The Tax Commissioner, Tax Assessor, Probate Court, and Juvenile Court offices are closed until the network is back online, while other county offices are open with limitations. Voting for the primaries will proceed as planned in Murray County.  

*Georgia political leaders and child development experts are emphasizing the importance of supporting children’s emotional wellness from an early age. The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning is working to strengthen an “Early Childhood System of Care” to support young children with social, emotional, and behavioral health needs. WSAV reports that the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health program focuses on a child’s ability to express emotions and form secure relationships. The state is focusing on policy, workforce development, prevention, and mental health services for children and families.   

*A Monroe County toddler is being treated for injuries suffered in a garage accident. Deputies say the three-year-old was pinned in between two vehicles outside his home on Shady Road Wednesday afternoon. A medical helicopter flew the boy to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.  
 
*Covington is considering taking action against parents for their children’s criminal behavior. A similar ordinance for parents is in place in Savannah. The Fourth of July fireworks’ celebration in Covington has already been canceled due to safety risks involving teens.
