The Corps of Engineers has approved a minor administrative change to the 2004 Lake Lanier Shoreline Management Plan regarding electrical service certification for Shoreline Use Permit holders.
The change applies to electrical service for permitted or licensed facilities on government property, including private boat docks.
Currently, Shoreline Use Permit holders are required to submit a form signed and certified by a state-licensed electrical contractor. The form certifies that electrical service meets National Electrical Code requirements for wet locations, marinas and boatyards as well as any additional requirements established by the Corps.
Beginning Oct. 1, it will no longer be used. Instead, Shoreline Use Permit holders will be required to submit a letter from a state-licensed electrical contractor certifying that the electrical service complies with current National Electrical Code requirements.
The electrical service requirements are not changing. Compliance with the National Electrical Code has always been required. The change only updates the documentation used to certify electrical service compliance.
Permit packages mailed before Oct. 1, 2026, will continue to be processed using the old requirements.
