Two lawmakers from Cornelia were among several state officials named Mondy to a new panel tasked with recommending Georgia’s next uniform election system. Sen. Bo Hatchett and Rep. Victor Anderson were selected to serve as members of the Election Equipment Specifications and Standards Committee, a bipartisan group created during this year’s special legislative session.
The committee was established under Senate Bill 3EX, which directs members to evaluate specifications for election equipment that uses hand‑marked paper ballots produced through ballot‑on‑demand printing. The panel will also be responsible for gathering input from election officials, cybersecurity specialists, and others. The committee’s first meeting is scheduled for Aug. 7 in Atlanta.
Under the law, the committee must submit its report by the end of next January. The recommendations will guide policymakers on appropriations, procurement and implementation of a new statewide election system beginning with the 2028 election cycle. The legislation also requires mandatory statewide hand recounts in certain close elections and provides reimbursement for eligible county recount costs.
