Cornelia: 4,000-gallon+ sewage spill

Cornelia is reporting a sewage spill amounting to about 4,500 gallons affecting a tributary of the North Fork of Little Mud Creek.

The spill was a result of a force main break, according to a social media post. “A City worker found the break at 10:30AM on July 15, 2026,” the post reads. “The pumps were shut off immediately and the spill stopped. The force main was repaired and back in service at 10:35am on 07-15-2026.”

A large portion of the spill was able to be pumped out of a low-lying area and disposed of at the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. However, some of the raw sewage did reach The North Fork of Little Mud Creek.
