*(UPDATE) – Gainesville’s Doug Collins appears headed for confirmation as head of the Veterans Service following his confirmation hearing Tuesday. The U.S. Senate Veterans Affairs Committee questioned Doug Collins for several hours, ahead of a full Senate vote that will likely be held next week. The Air Force veteran served Georgia’s ninth district for three terms. Georgia News Network reports the committee’s ranking Democrat says Collins will probably have bi-partisan support when the full vote for Secretary of Veterans Affairs takes place.
*Meanwhile, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments has reappointed State Representative Matt Dubnik (R-Gainesville) as the Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.
*The Hall County Parks and Leisure Services public input meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday night to get ideas and feedback for the development of a new park and active life center in South Hall is now scheduled for Feb. 5 at 5:30 at the Spout Springs Library. The meeting was rescheduled because of continued icy roads in parts of the county. While the in-person meeting has been postponed, the online option is available at Lose Design Engage.
