Coldest temps of season on the way with dangerous wind chills

Today’s brisk winds are ushering into our area the coldest weather of the season with dangerous wind chills expected by midweek.

According to the latest advisory from the National Weather Service (NWS), issued at 5:00 this morning, “significantly colder weather is expected by the middle of next week, with wind chills in the -5-to-10-degree range possible Tuesday and Wednesday mornings with potentially hazardous temperatures (lingering) through the end of the week.

In addition, the advisory warns of the possibility of a “wintry mix” of precipitation in north Georgia Monday and Tuesday, “especially in the northwest corner of the state.” Right now, the forecast for Gainesville and vicinity makes no mention of possible snow or sleet but lows are expected to dip into the teens and low 20s at mid-week.

Meanwhile, a large part of the country is “taking it on the chin,” with mammoth amounts of snow and near-record lows and wind chills. Winter storm to bring snow, winds, ice and life-threatening chill to US, forecasters warn – SRN News
