9th District Congressman Andrew Clyde said Tuesday morning he’s in favor of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) locating an ICE detention/processing center in Oakwood. Plans for a facility there and one in Social Circle are still up in the air but the property for the centers has been purchased. And while such facilities have their supporters, there has been some very vocal opposition to them.
Appearing on 97.5 Glory FM’s Community Focus, the Jackson County Republican said he recently discussed the issue with the new DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullen, “And as far as I understand,
they’re still moving forward with it. I am in favor of it. We need to ensure that every
person that is in the United States is here legally.”
Clyde added he feels a facility in Oakwood would be “an integral part of ensuring that those folks who are not here legally would be removed, especially starting with the violent criminal illegal alien
population and we have seen the disastrous effects of that population and what they
have done to our to our country, especially within the ninth district.”
He went on to cite a number of instances in and just outside the district when illegal immigrants preyed on young women, at least one resulting in murder.
“So, I mean, that’s it’s violent crime that we have been exposed to that we should never have had happen simply because the Biden administration allowed these illegal aliens to invade our country. And that’s
just and that is so wrong. So, this facility in Oakwood, I think, is going to be a very important part of that, and it has my full support.”
The congressman also discussed the ongoing budget talks in Congress, the President’s decision to initiate hostilities against Iran, the “unthinkable” thought that Iran might one day have nuclear weapons, and that Democrats might wrest control of the House from the GOP in the November elections. If that were to happen, impeachment proceedings against the President would almost certainly take place, Clyde said, and quickly.
