Unlike last week, when in-person business with Gainesville and Hall County was suspended for two days in observance of Christmas, only one day will be affected this weekend in observance of New Year’s Day.

“The City of Gainesville will observe the New Year’s holiday Wednesday (New Year’s Day), Jan. 1, 2025, resulting in unavailability of the following facilities and services:
All administrative offices, including those at the:
- Gainesville Administration Building
- Gainesville Community and Economic Development Building
- Gainesville Public Safety Complex (Gainesville Police Department + Gainesville Fire Department)
- Gainesville Water Resources Building (Queen City Parkway)
- Gainesville Civic Center (Gainesville Parks & Recreation), etc. (Frances Meadows Aquatics & Fitness Center will be closed)
Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center, including:
- Meals on Wheels
- Senior Life Center
- Fingerprinting services
Transportation, including:
- WeGo
Garbage and recycling
- No garbage or recycling will be picked up Wednesday (New Year’s Day), Jan. 1, 2025. Wednesday customers should put their garbage and recycling curbside by no later than 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, for collection. Thursday customers should put their garbage and recycling curbside by no later than 6:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, for collection.
Leaf collection
- Curbside leaf collection service remains ongoing. Zone 1 will be serviced Monday, Jan. 6, 2025-Friday, Jan. 10, 2025. Zone 2 will be serviced Monday, Jan. 13, 2025-Friday, Jan. 17, 2025. ****HALL COUNTY NEWS RELEASE:
In celebration of the New Year, Hall County’s administrative offices, community centers, courts, animal shelter, libraries, recycling center and landfill, as well as the Hall County Government Family Health Center and UGA Extension Office will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1. In addition, all library branches and community centers will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
Essential public safety and public works personnel will continue service as usual during the holiday, and all of Hall County’s compactor sites will operate during normal business hours.
Additionally, the Hall County Family Health Clinic, which is utilized by Hall County Government employees, their dependents and retirees on the County’s health insurance plan, will close at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, and will not reopen until 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8. In the interim, clinic visitors may utilize Longstreet Urgent Care, located at 725 Jesse Jewell Parkway in Gainesville. The Hall County Family Health Center Pharmacy will close for New Year’s Day only.
