City completes Dixon water main upgrades; next comes sewer main replacement

Gainesville’s Department of Water Resources (DWR) has completed the lengthy process of water main upgrades along Dixon Drive. Now, attention turns to replacing the sewer main in that area. That three-month project is scheduled to begin Thursday.

CITY OF GAINESVILLE NEWS RELEASE:

“Now that the Gainesville Department of Water Resources (DWR) has completed water main upgrades along Dixon Drive, crews have shifted their focus toward replacing the sewer main.

DWR estimates it will take crews approximately three months to replace the existing 6-inch clay sewer main with an 8-inch PVC main – work that begins Thursday, Jan. 4. The area’s 6-inch water main was recently replaced with an 8-inch ductile iron pipe main.

The public is encouraged to review the attached Dixon Drive Detour Map, as well as the construction schedule below:

  • Construction will proceed in order from phases I-III (see map)
  • Work will take place from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, plus the occasional Saturday
  • 24-hour partial road closures are necessary to remove the old water main and install the new sewer main while maintaining sewer service
  • Residents will have driveway access at all times, but may have to use a detour as road closure areas shift
  • Dixon Drive will be repaved after all new water and sewer mains have been installed

Those navigating the area are urged to drive carefully, follow all detour signs, and watch for construction workers and equipment during this time.

The City of Gainesville thanks you for your patience during this progress.”
