Charges pending in fiery Ga. 365 crash

An investigation continues in a multi-vehicle collision that blocked Ga. 365 at Lula Road for almost two hours Tuesday. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office released a report on the fiery crash Thursday morning

“Witnesses first reported the collision to Hall County E-911 at 5:40 p.m. Deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and investigators with HCSO’s Accident Investigation Unit (AIU) arrived at the scene and found a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude fully engulfed in flames. The driver was out of the vehicle. Four other vehicles were involved in the crash as well.

According to the investigation to date, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, identified as Teresa Garrett Jones, 62, of McDonough, was traveling northbound on Cornelia Highway. Jones attempted to make a left turn to Lula Road and drove into the path of a 2002 Nissan Frontier being driven by Jesus Chavez Canales, 31, of Gainesville. Jones’s vehicle traveled forward after the initial collision and struck a 2022 Honda Accord, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra and a 2006 Ford Expedition.

Both Jones and Chavez were transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the other vehicles were uninjured. At last report, Jones remained hospitalized following surgery on a broken wrist…”
