Challenging a voter’s eligibility will now cost you in Cobb Co.

(FROM GEORGIA NEWS NETWORK) – The Cobb County Board of Elections has voted to charge individuals who challenge voter eligibility for the cost of notifying the challenged voters.

This decision comes amid a national effort by Republican activists, including allies of Donald Trump, to challenge voter registrations.

Democrats have pushed for charging challengers to deter mass challenges, but Republicans oppose the measure, arguing it is unfair to charge people for exercising their challenge rights.

The lack of state guidelines on handling challenges has led to inconsistencies in how counties address voter challenges, with thousands of voters being challenged in recent years.
