UPDATE: Motorcyclist seriously injured in Titshaw Drive accident

1:30 P.M. MONDAY UPDATE:

A motorcycle operator suffered serious injuries in a collision with a passenger vehicle in Gainesville Sunday night.

Patrol deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), along with an investigator from the agency’s Accident Investigation Unit (AIU), responded to the scene on Titshaw Drive just after 6:15.

“The on-scene investigation determined Donny James Carroll, 63, of Gainesville, was traveling westbound on Titshaw Drive in the area of Cross Street on his motorcycle,” sheriff’s office spokesman B.J. Williams said. “The driver of the passenger vehicle, a 16-year-old boy, was traveling eastbound in the same area.”

Both vehicles had traveled into the center of the roadway and made contact with each other. As a result, Carroll was ejected from the motorcycle and landed about 20 feet from the crash site.

“Carroll suffered serious injuries to his left leg, including an open fracture to his femur,” Williams said. “The teen driver was not injured.”

The teen driver was charged with failure to maintain lane; he also was cited for violation of license restrictions because he was operating a vehicle on a learner’s permit and did not have a licensed driver in the car with him. Carroll also was cited for failure to maintain lane.

Titshaw Drive was closed for more than an hour for the crash investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY. POSTED10:00 SUNDAY NIGHT:

An accident earlier this evening left Titshaw Drive at Cross Street closed for a time.

It involved a car and motorcycle, and the Hall County Sheriff’s Office issued a traffic alert warning motorists to expect “extended” delays in the area.

No other information was available tonight and the sheriff’s office’s Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
