A Buford man who was wanted by both the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and Flowery Branch Police Department (FBPD) has been arrested in Lavonia following a police chase.
HCSO had issued warrants for Erik Anthony Devitis, 39, following an incident in a Buford neighborhood last Saturday. Later in the day, Devitis had an encounter with FBPD, and that agency issued arrest warrants, too.
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“Just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday, HCSO deputies were called to a residence on Lake Falls Drive to investigate a verbal domestic incident.
When they arrived at the residence, they encountered Mr. Devitis in the driveway, who first fled on foot and then was able to get into his vehicle. As Mr. Devitis left the scene in his car, he encountered a Hall County patrol vehicle arriving on scene. Mr. Devitis drove at the patrol vehicle, which was occupied by two HCSO patrol deputies, nearly causing a collision.
He then fled toward Gwinnett County with HCSO deputies in pursuit. The HCSO pursuit was suspended after Devitis entered Gwinnett County’s jurisdiction.
Warrants were issued for the following offenses in Hall County:
- Felony aggravated assault on a peace officer (two counts)
- Felony fleeing/attempting to elude
- Obstruction
- Reckless driving
- Failure to stop at a stop sign
- Driving on the wrong side of the road
- Failure to maintain lane
- Failure to use turn signals/lane change violation
Mr. Devitis was arrested by the Lavonia Police Department Monday…on charges unrelated to the Hall County incident.”
Lavonia Police said Monday night he was arrested after his car was forced to stop by a pursuing officer involved in a chase with him.
