Brush fire, multi-vehicle wreck on 985 plays havoc with p.m. rush hour

A brush fire and multi-vehicle wreck caused a rush hour nightmare for motorists along a section of I-985 Tuesday afternoon.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) says it started with the fire which was “in the area of Mile Markers 12 & 13 (near Wrigley’s).” Then there was the wreck which was in the northbound lanes and led to “lots of spectator slowing on the southbound side of the interstate.”

At one point, southbound traffic was “jammed” back to the Oakwood exit, even after all travel lanes had reopened, the sheriff’s office reported.

Details about the wreck still were not available late Tuesday night.
