12:30 p.m. UPDATE: All appointments at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville and Longstreet Clinic’s Gainesville location today are cancelled until further notice due to bomb threat in the area. If someone needs emergency care, they can dial 911 to access the emergency department.
EARLIER STORY. POSTED 11:15 a.m.:
“Heavy law enforcement presence at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in regards to a bomb threat in the vicinity,” reads a brief Facebook post from the Gainesville Police Department, which went up about 11:15. “OPERATIONS AT THE HOSPITAL ARE NOT IMPACTED.”
Capt. Kevin Holbrook, spokesman for the police department, added: “We are on scene of an alleged threat that came in via dispatch. A bomb threat in proximity to the hospital was called in. We have a heavy law enforcement presence. We are conducting safety sweeps with personnel, dogs and other safety equipment.”
