4 P.M. UPDATE: HCSO adds charges to case of man already facing 20+ charges

The Hall Cunty Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Thursday afternoon announced that more charges have been files against the Gainesville man arrested earlier this week following a chase involving the state patrol.

Details are contained in this HCSO NARRATIVE WHICH IS FOLLOWED BY THE EARLIER STORY:

“Early Monday morning, Dec. 18, Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies responded to Chattahoochee Trace and Stillwater Drive to assist the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

Troopers had conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle that was stolen in Hall County. Troopers arrested the rider, Chad Howard Harvell, 34, of Gainesville, on their own charges. Law enforcement recovered the motorcycle and a handgun, also stolen in Hall County, from Harvell.

HCSO investigators obtained additional warrants for Harvell for the stolen items, which were tied to two open cases. The warrants were served to Harvell at the Hall County Jail on Wednesday, Dec. 20, where he had been held since the GSP arrest. Harvell’s HCSO charges are; first-degree burglary, theft by taking, theft by receiving and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, all felonies.

According to the preliminary investigation, Harvell stole the motorcycle during an early-morning Nov. 30 burglary in the 3000 block of Eleanor’s Trace. During the crime, he also stole items including a backpack blower, chainsaw, power tools and a handgun.

The handgun recovered during the GSP stop was taken during an entering auto on Oct. 25 in the 5000 block of Merlin Drive.”

EARLIER STORY. POSTED AT NOON:

Chad Howard Harvell, 34, is being held in the Hall County Jail on $38,330 bond and is believed responsible for a number of vehicle break-ins in the Chattahoochee Country Club area.

GEORGIA STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:

“On Monday, December 18, 2023, at 3:59 pm, a Trooper from Post 6 Gainesville observed a dirt bike traveling without a license place on Club Drive, in Hall County. 

The Trooper attempted to stop the dirt bike, but the driver failed to stop initiating a pursuit.  After a short pursuit through several neighborhood streets, the driver left the roadway and traveled into a ravine.  The driver of the dirt bike fled on foot and was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. 

The dirt bike was discovered to be stolen and the driver is a suspect in several entering autos across Hall County.”
