Big bucks for hurricane-impacted farmers; Feds to monitor voting in 4 counties

*Georgia’s is set to allocate $100 million dollars for loans to farmers and cleanup efforts following Hurricane Helene, which caused significant damage to the state’s agriculture and forestry industries. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the funds, originally set aside for construction projects or debt repayment, will be used by the Georgia Development.

*The Justice Department will monitor voting procedures in Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties during Tuesday’s elections. The U.S. Attorney’s office in Atlanta says it’s about protecting voter rights and preventing intimidation or discrimination. The monitoring effort will be coordinated by the Civil Rights Division, enforcing federal statutes such as the Voting Rights Act and Americans with Disabilities Act. The public can report potential violations Tuesday through the department’s website or by calling toll-free numbers.
