The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Chamblee. The Chamblee Police Department (CPD) asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation Thursday3. Jeremiah Quincy Kinard, 24, of Auburn, was shot and wounded. No officers were injured during this incident.
The preliminary information indicates that Thursday CPD officers were near Peachtree Boulevard and Chamblee-Dunwoody Road looking for a stolen Jeep Compass. Officers found the SUV in the parking lot of the Walgreens at 5373 Peachtree Boulevard.
A GBI spokeswoman says officers tried to contact the driver, later identified as Kinard, who attempted to flee in the vehicle. As he was fleeing, a CPD officer shot at Kinard, hitting him.
Kinard was taken to a local hospital and was in stable condition at last check.
