GCSS, HCSD: First-day enrollment of nearly 35k expected this year

By this time next week, students in five public school systems in the Gainesville area will be just a day or two away from starting the new school year: Banks County, July 31; Commerce City, July 31; Jackson County, July 30; Jefferson City, July 30; and Barrow County, July 31. All the rest, including Gainesville (Aug. 4) and Hall County (Aug. 7), will wait until next month.

MAJOR REPAIRS/RENOVATIONS/ADDITIONS/NEW FACILITIES, ETC.:

Nothing major. Replaced HVAC units at New Holland Leadership Academy. Began renovations at Ivey-Watson Baseball Field.

ESTIMATED ENROLLMENT:

Approximately 8,250 which is similar to last school year.

OTHER ITEMS OF NOTE: New personnel 

  • Dr. Crystal Brown (Asst. Superintendent of Business & Operations), former Mundy Mill Principal, replaced Adrian Niles (retired). 
  • Shea Ray (Asst. Superintendent of Teaching & Learning) will be replacing Priscilla Collins (Deputy Supt) when she retires next year. 
  • Lauren Anderson (former CFO for White County Schools) replaced Kathy Pethel (retired). 
  • David Wagner replaced Roberto Rivera (retired) as GHS principal. 
  • Dr. Michelle Masters replaced Dr. Crystal Brown (promotion) as Mundy Mill Arts Academy Principal.
