*The Department of Veterans Affairs has allocated over $43 million in grants to 21 community organizations in Georgia to aid homeless veterans. This funding is part of a nationwide initiative totaling nearly $1.2 billion across 680 organizations. The grants will support homeless veterans in 2027, following efforts that housed nearly 55-thousand homeless veterans in 2025. WSB TV reports the grants will be given through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program. They give housing assistance and supportive services to veterans in need.
*Georgia’s second-largest school district removes another well-known novel from library shelves: Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison’s novel “The Bluest Eye.” Superintendent Chris Ragsdale cited explicit content, as the reason for the removal. Library and free-speech advocates criticize the decision, questioning how the district went about the move. Retired school librarian Nan Brown tells WABE officials may have not followed the proper procedure under a 2022 law. The novel’s removal continues debate over censorship and parental involvement in school literature. Thirty-seven books have been removed in recent years.
*Two children were killed and two women wounded in a Sunday night shooting in DeKalb County. The AJC reports that it happened at an apartment complex near the city of Stone Mountain. A DeKalb police spokesperson says the shooting “may be connected” to a fight that happened earlier in the day but did not elaborate.
