Athens Hwy. fire, wreck; I-985 wrecks

A fire and a wreck on Athens Highway caused headaches for motorists Saturday night as did crashes on I-985. One person was injured in the fire.

According to Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR), the fire occurred in the 2300 block of Athens Highway about 6:30. When firefighters got there, they found a single-story house that was “fully involved” in flames.

“One person was evaluated on scene for minor injuries,” spokeswoman Kimberlie Ledsinger said in an email, “and transported non emergent to NEGMC Gainesville.”

The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) says the accident on Athens Highway occurred a couple of hours later near the Gillsville Highway intersection and blocked the northbound lanes.

The wrecks on I-985 happened a little bit later and blocked the northbound lanes under the Friendship Road overpass, according to the sheriff’s office. Hall County sheriff’s deputies, Georgia State Patrol and state DOT HERO units all were on the scene.

There was no word late Saturday night on the causes of any of the accidents or what, if any, injuries occurred.
