Former Ga. first lady to be remembered Thursday; Arrest made in death of 8-year-old

*Former Gov. Nathan Deal, family and friends will be reading to students at Riverbend and White Sulphur Elementary Schools Thursday, which is the late Sandra Deal’s birthday, according to a spokesman for the Hall County School System. The former first lady, who taught school in Hall County for many years, spent countless hours reading to elementary students across the state while her husband was governor – even while she was battling cancer. Riverbend and White Sulphur will be consolidated into the Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary School which is scheduled to open this fall.

*The stepmother of an 8-year-old girl found dead in a house in Bethlehem Tuesday has been charged with killing her. Authorities announced the arrest of Natiela Barros, 34, Bethlehem, Wednesday morning. Barros is charged with Cruelty to Children in the First Degree, Aggravated Assault, Felony Murder, and Malice Murder.  Barros is married to the child’s biological father.   Details surrounding the girl’s death have not been released.
