Arrest made in 6-month-old Oakwood shoplifting case

A 40-year-old Gainesville woman has been charged in connection with a six-month-old Oakwood shoplifting case.

Oakwood Police detective Stuart Webb says the thefts date back to last October, but it was only earlier this month that police were notified about them.

“On April 2, I received a complaint in reference to a shoplifting suspect that had stolen from the Oakwood Walmart multiple times dating back to October of 2025,” Lt. Webb said Monday. “During the investigation, Walmart Loss Prevention provided me with 16 documented events from October 2025 through April 2026 with a total amount of loss documented at being $664.19.”

Susan McCrary, he said, stole everything from food to clothing, children’s toys and various other items.

“The suspect would check out using her credit/EBT card and then skip scan multiple times during each visit.

“After we identified the McCary’s vehicle, we were able to identify the suspect using security camera footage, social media searches, and eventually her driver’s license photo.”
