Seven electric membership cooperatives in Georgia, including three that serve people in the immediate Gainesville area, will be receiving infrastructure loans from the federal government.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) says they are part of a larger pot of $6.3 billion allocated for power providers in more than 40 states for use in supporting “grid reliability, clean energy and clean drinking water.”
The electric co-ops in our area included in the allocations and the amounts of their grants or loans are:
Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation $368,668,000
Amicalola Electric Membership Corporation $113,256,000
Habersham Electric Membership Corporation $67,676,000
