One of the teachers who died in the Barrow County school shooting last week and the School Resource Officer who confronted the gunman are both University of North Georgia (UNG) graduates. That’s according to the latest UNG alumni newsletter which was released Tuesday.
THE NEWSLETTER ARTICLE:
“This past weekend the UNG faculty and staff learned that Cristina Irimie, the math teacher killed last week at Apalachee High School, was a 2016 UNG middle grades education graduate. In the same email from Dr. Shannon, we learned that Tanner Good, the officer who intervened and stopped the shooter, is a 2018 criminal justice graduate.
When I heard of the shooting last week, it never occurred to me to look up the names of those involved in our alumni database. You don’t think anything so horrific could ever hit so close to home. Unfortunately this time, it did. If you would like to contribute to a gofundme account set up in Cristina’s name for her family, you can do so here. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the individuals directly impacted by the tragedy in the days and weeks to come.
