The state NAACP kicked off its 10-day tour this week in Macon, bringing town halls on housing and health care to communities that include rural parts of the state. *Three people are facing charges after an infant was found abandoned in Savannah. Police say officers responding to a child abandonment call early found an infant in a trash can near a hotel on Abercorn Street. Savannah Police Chief Lenny Gunther tells WSAV the child received medical care and is now in the custody of Georgia’s Division of Family and Children Services. Investigators are also reminding the public about Georgia’s Safe Place for Newborns Act, which allows infants to be legally surrendered at hospitals, fire stations, and police stations.
