Another case of bird flu found in Georgia

Bird flu was found recently in a small, backyard flock located in Clayton County, comprised of 13 chickens and ducks. This is the third detection of it in a backyard flock and fourth overall in Georgia since the ongoing nationwide outbreak began two years.

“As the…outbreak continues, implementing and maintaining strict biosecurity measures has never been more important,” Georgia Agriculture Commissioners Tyler Harper said.

To date, the current outbreak has impacted more than 133 million birds nationwide and less than .025% of them have been in Georgia, the nation’s top poultry producer.

The affected site is located in a residential area and is close to a lake that is frequented by wild birds, particularly waterfowl which are known carriers of bird flu.
