Amtrak Crescent could be affected by the current heat wave

Amtrak has had to cancel or slow some service because of the heat wave gripping the country coast to coast. That includes the Crescent, the New York to New Orleans twice-a-day service that stops in Gainesville every day.

High temperatures during warmer summer months can impact Amtrak operations, according to the carrier’s website. Extreme heat can cause rail, bridge and overhead wires to expand. As a precautionary approach, Amtrak may enact heat restrictions which require locomotive engineers to operate trains at lower speeds and can result in possible delays.
