Less than a week after the Lake Lanier Association (LLA) announced its opposition to any new dredging of the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (A-C-F) River Basin, the state of Florida has jumped into the fray.
But Florida’s interest in halting any such work lies not with Lake Lanier but its oyster industry with much of the harvesting occurring from Apalachicola Bay.
And the Apalachicola Riverkeeper has also gone on record as opposing any renewed dredging.

In defense of dredging, the Corps has said “We strive to enhance the environment through beneficial use dredging, with a goal of repurposing 70% of dredged material by 2030 to restore habitats, nourish beaches, and protect our coasts. Through our commitment to responsible navigation and environmental stewardship, we aim to secure a prosperous and sustainable future for all.”
