*A factory in Covington that previously recycled electric vehicle batteries is set to restart production under new ownership. The AJC reports that R3 Lithium, a battery material recovery and refining firm, plans to produce lithium carbonate, a key ingredient in lithium-ion batteries, at the facility. R3 Lithium aims to turn battery scrap into a major domestic source of critical materials for EVs and battery storage systems.
*Six Flags Entertainment Corp. has acquired ArieForce One, the iconic roller coaster from the now-closed Fun Spot America Atlanta. The towering steel coaster will be dismantled, moved, and reassembled at one of Six Flags’ parks for the 2028 or 2029 operating season. WSB-TV reports that the coaster, known for its impressive features and inversions, quickly gained a following among coaster enthusiasts during its short three-year run.
*A deadly triple shooting is under investigation in LaGrange. Officers say two teenagers – one 18, the other 19 – died after gunfire erupted at the Brittany Place Apartments Monday night. Another teenager is being treated for wounds suffered during the shooting. One suspect is behind bars for two counts of murder.
*A Georgia sheriff’s office is taking speeding seriously. Screven County Sheriff Norman Royal announced this week that there will be zero tolerance for speeding, so citations will be issued without a warning. The initiative comes after four fatal crashes in a 30-day period in the county. Sheriff Royal says it’s not about writing tickets, it’s about preventing another tragedy.
