The Flowery Branch City Council (FBCC) is scheduled to consider award of a $91,300 contract for an upgrade to a part of the city’s water system when it meets Thursday.
The part of the system in question is the one that enables operators to monitor and control water facilities such as treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, and pipelines from a central location. City officials say what’s in use now has been in operation for more than 20 years and is no longer dependable “for critical utility operations.”
The council will also consider naming the Flowery Branch wastewater treatment plant in honor of former Public Utilities Director and Wastewater Treatment plant Superintendent Jimmy Dean. Dean began working for the city in 1998 and served continuously for more than 24 years until retiring four years ago.
A resolution congratulating Police Chief Christopher Hulsey on his recent retirement is also on the agenda as well as a policy that would allow him and any future police department retirees to keep their city-issued guns and badges. They would, however, have no legal authority to act as law enforcement officers without expressed permission.
