The Sunday morning quiet in one part of Hall County was disrupted yesterday by a series of events that unfolded after a donkey wandered into a road.
HERE’S HOW THE HALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THINGS WENT:
“Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a hit-and-run vehicle collision with an animal that caused the donkey to hit a pedestrian and a parked vehicle over the weekend on Roy Parks Road.
Deputies arrived at the scene near Southchase Drive at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 2. According to initial details, the donkey was loose from nearby property, and several people were trying to contain it and notify the owner. One of the individuals was standing roadside, attempting to slow traffic.
As this was happening, a pickup truck rounded the corner and accelerated, startling the donkey, which ran into the road. The vehicle hit the donkey, causing it to “spin” and hit a vehicle parked roadside and the man trying to slow traffic. The man did not report any injuries, and the parked vehicle did not sustain damage. The pickup driver did not stop.
While deputies were interviewing people, the donkey’s owner arrived. The animal died.
Deputies continue to investigate the hit and run.”
