There’s been another sewage spill in Gainesville – this one sending1,000 gallons of wastewater into Lake Lanier. This was the third one since December 1.
CITY OF GAINESVILLE NEWS RELEASE:
“The Gainesville Department of Water Resources (DWR) has stopped a sewer overflow into Lake Lanier.
The spill was located and remedied Tuesday, Jan. 9.
During the torrential rain event Jan. 9, the City of Gainesville responded to a high-level
water alarm within the City’s sanitary sewer collection system. At 12:50 p.m., a discharge
was observed entering Lake Lanier in the Honeysuckle Lane/Harbor Cove area. The water
level subsided and the discharge stopped by 2:20 p.m.
DWR estimates about 1,000 gallons reached Lake Lanier. The area of the lake near the
spill was assessed and no dead or stressed aquatic life were found.”
