*As cleanup continued in parts of Georgia hit with record flooding earlier this week, authorities Friday reported the first death associated with the high waters. They say 56-year-old Julie Barrs was swept away while turning her vehicle into a driveway in Murray County. Her body was found Thursday, marking the first reported flooding death. The National Weather Service called the rainfall a 1-in-1,000 Year Event, with more than 11 inches falling near Blue Ridge in 12 hours.

*A former NFL player from west Georgia is helping homeless veterans rebuild their lives through stable housing. Former Harris County football standout and NFL veteran Jordan Jenkins is partnering with the Plummer Home to help veterans transition from homelessness to independent living. One veteran, Dominique Williams, says the program helped him move into a fully furnished home after struggling to find work and housing following his military service. Jenkins says many veterans face barriers even after qualifying for benefits.

*Gov.-elect Keisha Lance Bottoms said Friday she’ll work to repeal Georgia’s abortion restrictions, a move in line with promises she made on the campaign trail to restore previous standards before the repeal of Roe v. Wade, the AJC reported. Speaking to reporters at the state Capitol, Bottoms said if Democrats “see a pathway” to address the law when the legislative session kicks off in January, they would “take that opportunity.”
