The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) arrested a student at Lanier College & Career
Academy (LCCA) in Oakwood Tuesday after school administrators reported finding a shotgun in the student’s vehicle around noon.
Kevin Mondragon, 18, of Oakwood, faces a single charge of carrying a weapon within
a school safety zone.
According to the investigation, school administrators were conducting a search of
Mondragon’s vehicle after receiving reports that there were illegal substances in it. During the search, they located the unloaded firearm in the trunk of the car. They immediately notified the school resource officer (SRO) assigned to the campus.
The SRO took Mondragon into custody without incident.
The investigation determined there was no evidence Mondragon intended to harm
students or staff at the school.
