Nearly 3M voted early in Ga.; Shooting targeted Cherokee Co. home… again; Report: Maternal care in state not good

*With some numbers still trickling in, early voting in Georgia, which ended Friday, is approaching three million, a record for midterm advance voting in the state. Turnout was highest in north and central Georgia. Towns County lead the way with a 48.3% turnout; Chattahoochee County on the Alabama line’s 12.4% bringing up the rear.

*Shots were fired into an occupied house in a Cherokee County neighborhood a few days ago, for the second time recently. According to WSB-TV, license plate readers and security video helped deputies track down 50-year-old Taconda Lashad Bush. Investigators say the shooting stems from an ongoing workplace dispute. Bush now faces felony aggravated assault charges. A similar incident happened on September 27, and police are investigating to see if the two shootings are related.  No one was hurt either time.

*Georgia is now one of the worst states for maternal care access. Using multiple factors from recent CDC data, a new LendingTree analysis shows roughly six babies die before their first birthday for every thousand live births in the state: that’s 16 percent above the national rate. The analysis also finds roughly one in six women of childbearing age lacks health insurance, and about one in four has no regular doctor.
