Oakwood police officer injured while directing traffic

An Oakwood police officer was injured earlier this week while directing traffic at the site of an accident on Winder Highway.

The state patrol said Friday Austin Schroeder was injured when another vehicle approaching the accident scene struck his police cruiser and overturned. Troopers say the police vehicle’s emergency lights were on at the time of the 8:00 accident Thursday night.

Schroeder and the driver of the SUV that struck his cruiser, Michael McDaniel, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

McDaniel was charged with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and DUI.
