The Northeast Georgia History Center recently announced that the Melvin Douglas and Victoria Kay Ivester Foundation has awarded a $90,000 grant to fund “major educational enhancements and volunteer coordination in support of regional history education programming.”
The investment directly supports the Ada Mae Ivester Education Center’s rapidly expanding initiatives, which are on track to welcome thousands of K-12 students this year.
“We want every student to feel engaged and inspired by history education here while every educator can rest assured we are mindful of curricular goals and GSE standards,” said Meg McPeek, Director of the Ada Mae Ivester Education Center.
“My Mother was very proud of her association with the Northeast Georgia History Center and with the education initiatives associated with her name. She enjoyed visiting the Center and she would be pleased with the progress made under the leadership of Mary Hemmer,” said M. Douglas Ivester, a board member of the Ivester Foundation.
“The Ivester Foundation’s continued partnership and generosity transform how we serve our region,” said Mary Hemmer, Executive Director of the Northeast Georgia History Center. “This investment allows us to modernize our learning spaces while adding support to our incredible volunteer community. We are deeply grateful to the Ivester Foundation for their unwavering commitment to preserving and sharing Northeast Georgia’s history for future generations.”
The updates are scheduled to begin immediately, ensuring facilities and staffing are fully prepared for upcoming school outreach and field trip programming.
