Following his release from the hospital Wednesday, a 20-year-old Gainesville man was taken to
the Hall County Jail to face charges in connection with a deadly traffic accident that occurred last
week on Lula Road.
Jesse Jacob Martinez was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, failure to maintain lane and driving with slick tires, according to the sheriff’s office.
Fernando Jose Gutierrez, 20, of Dahlonega, a passenger in Martinez’s pickup, was killed in the two-
vehicle collision, which occurred around 7:30 Thursday night. Martinez suffered serious injuries, leaving him hospitalized for several days. The driver of the other truck, 52-year-old Jack Jason Dooley of Dahlonega, was also seriously injured.
Martinez was booked Wednesday afternoon and was released from jail a few hours later after posting a bond of $16,960.
