Lake down another half-a-foot; drought eases some more

The level of Lake Lanier lost another half-a-foot over the past week, and drought conditions continued to improve in Georgia. The lake level Thursday morning was 1063.3, about eight feet below normal for this time of the year.

As for the drought, Hall County remains about evenly divided between abnormally dry and moderately dry, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor – the latter being the more serious of the two. The same holds true for the rest of northeast Georgia.

The amount of Georgia considered drought-free improved by about one percent and there was a sharp decline in the part where severe conditions prevail.
