Lake Lanier volunteers removed nearly 55 tons of trash and debris during this year’s Shore Sweep, according to figures released Saturday by the Lake Lanier Association.
Preliminary collection totals from eight reporting sites show at least 54.22 tons of debris was removed, with results from additional cleanup locations still being compiled.
Gainesville Marina led all reporting sites with 22.21 tons collected, followed by Gwinnett Park with 12.57 tons and Balus Creek Park with 8.19 tons.
Other reported totals included 3.26 tons at Lake Lanier Islands Boat Ramp, 2.96 at Holly Park, 2.58 at Bald Ridge Marina and 2.25 tons at Cresswind Kayak Club. Volunteers participating as walkers at Lake Lanier Islands collected an additional 400 pounds of debris.
The Lake Lanier Association sponsors the cleanup each September.
