Former Cleveland city councilman dies

Funeral services for David “Rush” Mauney, a former Cleveland city councilman and current member of the town’s zoning board, will be held at 2:00 Monday at Cleveland First Baptist Church. Mauney died Thursday at the age of 73.

Mauney served on the Cleveland City Council from 1996 to 2015 and remained active in local government through his service on the city’s zoning board. During his years in public office, he supported downtown beautification efforts and other initiatives aimed at enhancing the community.

He also served on the inaugural board of the current White County Public Library and was a strong supporter of the library’s continued growth and development.

Known for his commitment to preserving and improving Cleveland, Mauney dedicated decades to civic involvement and community service. Local leaders and residents remember him as a passionate advocate for the city and its future.
