*Twenty individuals, including five members of the GoodFellas criminal street gang and four convicted felons, have been indicted on federal gun and drug charges, including firearms-trafficking. The charges were filed following the theft of nearly 1,500 guns from shipping facilities in Conley and Macon.
*MARTA is having to rein in overspending. A new report released this week shows the agency went over budget in the last fiscal year by close to 17 percent. The AJC reports the main culprit was more than $18 million in overtime. Department heads are now being told to adjust spending before placing any new purchase orders.
*Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport tops a new reader’s choice awards list. Condé Nast Traveler revealed this week that Savannah is the best airport in the U.S., marking the seventh year in a row. Close to 800,000 people submitted responses based on their travel experiences.
*A convicted south Georgia drug trafficker is back in custody facing new charges after a meth bust. 43-year-old Garry Haggins, Jr., was arraigned in federal court Wednesday following his capture in Oklahoma last month. He allegedly transported 93 pounds of meth through Ellenwood, Georgia, before running from a traffic stop, leading to months on the run. Haggins is a convicted cocaine trafficker.
