*Georgia ranks in the top half of U.S. states for public education. Consumer Affairs ranked each state’s education based on four categories: K through 12 academic outcomes, school funding and resources, higher education, and school safety. Georgia ranked 24th, scoring its best marks in higher education and its worst in K through 12 academic outcomes. Massachusetts took the top spot, while Arizona hit the bottom.
*New foreclosure numbers suggest some homeowners across Georgia and South Carolina are facing mounting financial strain. Georgia ranked among the states seeing elevated foreclosure activity this year, recording more than 1,100 foreclosure starts in August. As WRDW reports, neighboring South Carolina posted the nation’s highest foreclosure rate. Housing analysts say higher borrowing costs and affordability challenges are making it harder for some homeowners to recover after falling behind on payments.
*The Republican nominee for Georgia governor, who once said he would be President Trump’s favorite governor, distanced himself from Trump during last night’s debate with Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms. The AJC noted that Jackson avoided mentioning the president by name and instead pointed to Gov. Brian Kemp as his model, while vowing to work with any president.
