*The new gang enforcement unit in Savannah will be looking into the actions of close to 20 identified gangs in the area. Most of those gangs are on the east or west sides of the city. The sheriff of Chatham County said at a Thursday news conference the gangs are advised to shut their operations down immediately.
*The search for a new chancellor for the University System of Georgia (USG) is over. The Board of Regents announced yesterday that Thomas A. Fanning will take over the position, succeeding Sonny Perdue. Fanning served as CEO of the Southern Company for 13 years before his 2023 retirement. Perdue served two terms as Georgia governor before becoming chancellor.
*Drivers are already seeing lower prices at the gas pump because of Georgia’s new tax suspension. AAA reports that the current average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.96. Before the governor suspended the tax earlier this week, the average price had already moved several cents above $4.00.
*A federal judge has dismissed a Department of Justice lawsuit over the collection of sensitive voter information in Georgia, such as Social Security numbers and driver’s license details.
