*The South Hall Rotary Club recently presented Lanier Tech’s Adult Education program with a $1,000 check to assist with GED exam fees for its students. The GED test consists of four individual subject areas: mathematics, reasoning through language arts, social studies and science. Students first receive targeted instruction from Adult Education faculty and take an official practice test before attempting the official exam.
*Former Helen City Manager Jerry Elkins has died at the age of 73. Before moving to Helen, Elkins served as mayor of Locust Grove. He was a recipient of the Georgia Municipal Association’s Lifetime Service Award and was presented with the Citizen of the Year Award by the White County Chamber of Commerce in 2022, the year he retired as Helen City Manager. A memorial service is scheduled at 2:00 Saturday at Barrett Funeral Home Chapel in Cleveland.
