The drought continued to expand in the past week and now covers 99.7% of Georgia, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM).
The drought-free parts have been reduced to very small portions of Carroll and Haralson counties in west Georgia.
In our part of the state, “abnormally dry” conditions still prevail except some more serious conditions in Hall, Habersham, White, Rabun, Lumpkin, and Dawson counties.
The level of Lake Lanier, meantime, is down two-tenths of a foot from this time last week and is now a foot lower than it was at the beginning of the month.
