*The Italian tire maker Pirelli announced yesterday that it will invest one-point-two-billion-dollars at its U.S. headquarters in Rome. The expansion is expected to add 1,000 jobs in a move that will quadruple its workforce. Hiring will begin in 2029.
*Three Georgia colleges are among the top 100 in the country. U.S. News and World Report just came out with its best overall college rankings, which list Emory University at number 23, Georgia Tech at 29, and the University of Georgia at number 52. Berry College outside Rome was ranked in a tie for second among best regional universities in the South.
*Using marijuana while pregnant is linked to lasting brain changes seen a decade later. According to a new Georgia State University, study published in “Translational Psychiatry,” researchers found disrupted brain wiring in ten-year-olds who were exposed before birth. The Atlanta team evaluated 751 exposed children against thousands of their peers, finding the exposed group faced more behavioral issues and scored lower on memory and thinking tests.
*The Republican candidate for Georgia governor is dropping legal battles against his former foe. The AJC reports Rick Jackson decided Friday to withdraw a campaign fundraising lawsuit against Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones, who lost in the GOP primary. This comes after Jackson dropped a defamation lawsuit earlier this month. Jones has not yet endorsed Jackson in the November midterms.
